Superfood called grapefruit

Posted by Agnieszka Worek on

Superfoods are trending. Açai, goji, coconut, pitaya are more and more available on the market. But one of our favourites is grapefruit. Why?

Apart from being filling and hydrating, grapefruit is usually large enough to satisfy our hunger for snacks and because it is sour, it suppresses cravings for sugar. One medium - sized grapefruit contains about 20% more vitamin C than orange, which is good not only for our immune system, but also for healthy heart and fighting off free radicals. Grapefruit contains pectin, a form of soluble fiber that has been shown to control our glucose levels and to lower 'bad' cholesterol, supporting our digestive system. Potassium present in this amazing fruit is wonderful for heart health and muscle recovery, reducing the risk of stroke or kidney stones. Grapefruit contains also lycophene, a phytochemical found in red fruits and veggies, which has high antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. At last, grapefruit is made up of 90% of water, making it one of the most hydrating fruits!
