The Healing Power Of The Sea

‘Dance with the waves, move with the sea. Let the rhythm of the water set your soul free’.

If you, just like us, love ocean, sea, beach and just thinking about any of these makes you happy, then you probably don’t need any convincing about the magical and healing powers of sea water. The beautiful combination of sun, sea, and sand is a wonderful and most natural form of therapy available to mankind. Any visit to the beach always leaves you feeling alive and rejuvenated, both mentally and physically. Since ancient times, people understood that seawater is the answer and the remedy for many conditions, and there has been more and more research conducted those days to actually prove that the sea can help us restore our mental, physical and emotional well – being. Seawater can strengthen our body to fight against bacteria, viruses, pathogens and low immune system. The sound of the crashing waves has a fantastic and healing effect on our mind and body, as it induces deep states of relaxation (perfect for those who suffer from insomnia).

Did you know that sea air is charged with negative ions that build our body’s capacity to absorb more oxygen? Our modern lifestyles and the use of technology often expose us to unhealthy free radicals which destroy our body’s natural energy, but when we go to the sea, we can quickly relax and feel the energy coming back to us. That’s because the negative ions (and there are so many of them at the seaside), clear the air of airborne allergens, such as dust, bacteria, pollen, mold or viruses. They help you breathe cleaner and fresher air.
Walking barefoot and feeling the sand under your feet can neutralize the impact of free radicals on your body, promoting good health, enhancing blood circulation, boosting your immune system and reducing inflammation.

In 1897 Rene Quinton, a French doctor, discovered that our blood plasma and seawater are in 98% identical. What does that mean? It means that our blood has an extra molecule of iron whereas seawater has an extra molecule of magnesium, but apart from that, all molecules are identical. When we immerse our bodies in the seawater, we absorb all the minerals our body needs through the skin. Seawater increases the elasticity of our skin, improving circulation and helping the body to carry blood to all the organs. Iodine, very much present in the seawater, can help boost thyroid function and help the body fight infections. Many people suffering from asthma, depression, skin conditions (eczema or dermatitis), or osteoporosis notice a lot of improvement when they spend enough time at the seaside, swimming and enjoying all the benefits the sea or the ocean has to offer.
